The 2026 playoff picture is starting to come into focus as we know the first team to clinch (Minnesota) and the first team eliminated from contention (Seattle).
While three games separate first place (Minnesota) from second place (Golden State) at the top of the standings, just below them are six teams (Las Vegas, Indiana, Washington, Atlanta, New York and Dallas) also separated by only three games.
Each team is looking to not only clinch its spot but also earn the highest seed possible, which means every game from here on out is critical to how this race plays out.
Let’s take a look at how they stack up entering a new week.

In Sunday’s win over Dallas, the Lynx not only became the first team to punch their ticket to the playoffs, but they also witnessed history as Kayla McBride became the first player in WNBA history to hit at least 10 3-pointers in a single game. Even with their 10-game win streak snapped, the Lynx have won 12 of their last 13 games dating back to July 8. Over that stretch, McBride has been cookin’ — averaging 23.1 points on 53.6% FG, 50.9% 3P, and 96.3% FT shooting splits.

The Valkyries bring a four-game win streak into this week, which has them hosting Chicago in their only game of the week. Dating back to June 24, Golden State has won 13 of its last 15 games, which is the best record over the past 15 games for any team in the league, one better than Minnesota. The Valkyries have already matched their win total from their inaugural season (23-21) — how much higher can they reach in Year 2?

With Sunday’s 95-75 victory over Phoenix, the Washington Mystics matched their longest single-season win streak in franchise history (originally set in 2018). The win over the Mercury was the Mystics’ first double-digit victory during the streak, as they continue to be the best clutch team in the league with a 14-6 record in games within five points in the final five minutes.

After Chelsea Gray shined in clutch time in an overtime win over Indiana, the Aces closed out a five-game road trip with back-to-back losses in Minnesota and New York — only their second consecutive defeats of the season and the first since last May. The loss to the Liberty came on the second night of a back-to-back with Coach Hammon sitting her stars as A’ja Wilson, Gray, and Jackie Young were inactive. However, the schedule doesn’t get any easier as the Aces open a five-game homestand with consecutive games against the red-hot Mystics before hosting the league-leading Lynx.

After a tough loss to Las Vegas in overtime, the Fever bounced back to win at Chicago to come away with a 1-1 split on the week. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 27 points in the win for her 16th consecutive game with at least 20 points. This is a WNBA record for the longest such streak in a single season, breaking A’ja Wilson’s run of 15 straight in 2024. However, Wilson still has the longest streak spanning multiple seasons (20). Can Mitchell inch closer to that mark this week as Indy faces New York, Dallas and Atlanta?

New York put up a perfect 3-0 week — albeit with two wins over the playoff-eliminated Storm and one against an Aces squad resting its stars — to improve to 7-1 over its last eight games. The Liberty are gaining momentum at the right time, bouncing back from a rough 2-8 stretch spanning a month from mid-June to mid-July. The Liberty will look to continue their upswing when they face the Fever, Sparks and Sun this week.

Atlanta entered last week riding a five-game win streak, but went just 1-2 with losses to the Aces and Mystics. The Dream will look to bounce back as they open the week with games against two teams in the bottom third of the standings — Toronto and Connecticut enter this week with a combined 18-44 record — before an important matchup with Indiana on Sunday. Atlanta leads the season series 2-1 and can clinch the head-to-head tiebreaker with a win.

The Wings faced a tough schedule and came up empty last week with losses to the Mystics, Valkyries and Lynx. Dallas is now 1-5 in six games since the All-Star break and has fallen to eighth place in the standings. Two key factors during Dallas’ post-All-Star slide have been increased turnovers and a lack of 3-point shooting. The Wings led the league in turnover percentage entering the break (14.4%), but rank eighth since (17%). From beyond the arc, the Wings rank 14th in both 3-pointers made (6.8 per game) and 3-point percentage (30.6%) since the break.

After going 3-2 during their five-game homestand, the Sky have a three-game West Coast swing this week with stops in Seattle, San Francisco and back to Seattle. The Sky are just 4-11 outside of Chicago so far this season. That mark must improve if the Sky hope to stay in the postseason race down the stretch.

The Fire snapped a five-game skid with consecutive wins this week. The first came against Toronto as Portland improved to 2-0 in this matchup of 2026 expansion teams. The Fire followed that win with a Rivals Week victory over Seattle in a clash of Pacific Northwest teams. This week, Portland hosts the league-leading Lynx before running it back with the Storm in Seattle and visiting Phoenix to close the week.

On Thursday, the Sparks defeated the league-leading Lynx to snap Minnesota’s 10-game win streak and improve to 2-2 since trading Kelsey Plum to Phoenix at the trade deadline. The Sparks will host Plum and the Mercury on Tuesday in L.A. before embarking on a three-game East Coast swing with stops in New York and Washington.

After defeating the Sky in Kelsey Plum’s debut game, the Mercury dropped their final three games of a four-game road trip — falling further back in the playoff race. Sitting in 12th place, the Mercury are 7.5 games back of No. 8 Dallas with 10 games to play. This week, Plum returns to Los Angeles for the first time since being moved at the trade deadline before the team returns home to host Portland.

The Sun won their lone game of last week — a 75-72 win over the Mercury. It marked Phoenix’s final game in Connecticut, and the Sun used that opportunity to salute former Sun star Alyssa Thomas by retiring her No. 25 jersey to the rafters. Thomas earned the nickname “The Engine” during her 11 seasons in Connecticut as she led the team to eight consecutive playoff appearances and two Finals appearances.

With losses at Golden State and Portland last week, the Tempo have dropped eight straight and 12 of their last 13 games. This week, the Tempo wrap up a five-game road trip with stops in Atlanta and Dallas, facing a pair of teams they have yet to defeat in their inaugural season, going a combined 0-5 so far.

The Storm became the first team to be officially eliminated from playoff contention. They will miss the playoffs in consecutive seasons for only the third time in franchise history. An 0-3 week, with two losses to New York and one to Portland, extended Seattle’s losing streak to 11 games, matching the franchise record set earlier this season.

2026 WNBA Power Rankings: Week 11

The 2026 WNBA regular season has officially entered its third act.
With two-thirds of the season complete, four tiers have emerged from the standings:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400">Tier 1: The Minnesota Lynx hold a four-game lead over their nearest competitor.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400">Tier 2: Only 3.5 games separate the second-place Aces from the eighth-place Liberty, with the Valkyries, Dream, Wings, Fever and Mystics in between them.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400">Tier 3: Sitting five games back of Tier 2, only 1.5 games separate the ninth-place Sparks from the 13th-place Tempo, with Chicago, Phoenix and Portland in between them.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400">Tier 4: Sitting 3.5 games back of Tier 3, the Sun and Storm are the only teams with single-digit wins.</li>
</ul>
Three takeaways from looking at these tiers:
<ol>
<li style="font-weight: 400">The Lynx are in the driver’s seat to earn the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs for the second straight season.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400">The battles between the seven teams in Tier 2 for a top-four seed and home-court advantage in the opening round will be fascinating to follow and likely come down to the wire. Head-to-head matchups will be key as tiebreakers may come into play in such a tightly packed group.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400">The five-game gap between Tier 2 (teams in the playoffs if the season ended today) and Tier 3 (teams headed to the lottery) is large, but not insurmountable. However, time is of the essence for those teams to make their move.</li>

The Lynx are rolling, picking up their 10th straight win on Sunday for their longest win streak in a decade. The keys to the run:

<li style="font-weight: 400">Kayla McBride is on fire, averaging 22.7 points on 53.3% FG, 48.7% 3P, 95.8% FT shooting splits over the past 10 games.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400">There is no rookie wall for Olivia Miles, who continues to elevate her game as the season progresses, averaging 22.3 points, 6.1 assists and 50% 3-point shooting during the streak.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400">Napheesa Collier has seamlessly fit back into a winning squad, averaging 18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks while playing only 25 minutes per game over her first four contests of the season.</li>

After squandering a 13-point lead in a loss to Phoenix in their first game after the All-Star break, the Valkyries bounced back with a win over Toronto on Sunday. Golden State opens this week with a rematch with the Tempo before heading to Dallas on Friday looking to clinch the season series against the Wings with a victory.

The Aces won their first two games following the All-Star break before falling to the Sky on a last-second shot on Saturday despite A’ja Wilson’s 36-point effort. It was Wilson’s third 30+ point performance in her last four games and 10th of the season, double any other player’s total this season. Wilson and the Aces will be tested this week with a four-game slate all against teams in the top two tiers.

Kelsey Mitchell’s season-high 37 points were not enough for the Fever to cool down the Lynx on Sunday in a clash of hot teams. Indiana’s five-game win streak was snapped, while Minnesota extended its run to 10 in a row. The Fever find themselves in the middle of Tier 2, surrounded by teams with similar records battling for playoff positioning.

The Dream entered the All-Star break on a high note — winning three straight games before sending three players to Chicago for the midseason festivities — and have picked up right where they left off. Atlanta won its first two games coming out of All-Star, including a victory over Dallas on Wednesday to complete a 3-0 season sweep, extending its win streak to five. Allisha Gray (21.6 ppg, 56.3% FG) and Angel Reese (19.4 ppg, 11.0 rpg) have combined for 40 points per game during this run.

On June 28, the Mystics outlasted the Fire in a four-overtime instant classic. Starting with that game, Washington has gone 8-3 over its last 11 games to climb from ninth to seventh in the standings. The Mystics enter this week riding a four-game win streak, looking to close out their six-game homestand strong as they host the Wings, Dream and Mercury.

The Wings dropped their first two games coming out of the All-Star break before getting back on track with a win over Connecticut on Sunday despite a season-low six points from Paige Bueckers in 25 minutes. While Dallas is eight games over .500, its last win over a .500 team came on July 7 against New York. Among teams in the top two tiers, Dallas has the worst record (7-10) against winning teams.

Over a 10-game stretch from June 19 to July 18, the Liberty went just 2-8, including an 0-4 mark in games that featured clutch time — defined as the score within five points in the game’s final five minutes. Since that 2-8 stretch, New York has bounced back, going 4-1 over its last five games, with all five decided by five points or less. Can the Liberty remain on the upswing and improve their position in the playoff picture?

The win over Las Vegas came via Sydney Taylor’s last-second game-winning 3-pointer to stun the defending champs. The Sky are 4-2 in their last six games as they try to make the leap from Tier 3 to Tier 2 with 15 games to play.

The Mercury made the biggest splash at Sunday’s trade deadline by acquiring All-Star guard Kelsey Plum from the Sparks. At 11-19, the Mercury sit six games back of the Liberty, who currently hold the eighth and final playoff spot. Can the addition of Plum ignite a late postseason push? With the trade saga behind them, the ninth-place Sparks sit five games back of the final playoff spot with 16 games to play. Can they make a late-season push to get into Tier 2?

Her second such game came Friday against Indiana and Caitlin Clark, who previously held that distinction.

First up is a rematch with the Valkyries in the Bay Area before heading to Portland in a clash of expansion teams. Will the newly-acquired Aneesah Morrow make her Tempo debut this week after joining Toronto at the trade deadline?

Seattle opens this week with back-to-back games in New York — the team that currently holds the final playoff spot. The Storm trail the Liberty by 12 games in the loss column with 13 games left to play. With the Liberty leading the three-game season series 1-0, a Seattle loss in either game against New York will seal the Storm’s lottery fate.

Welcome to All-Star week.
This weekend, the league’s annual celebration of the game and its stars takes over Chicago with Friday&#8217;s State Farm 3-Point Contest and Kia Shooting Stars at Wintrust Arena, followed by Saturday’s All-Star Game at the United Center.
Before 22 of the league’s top players head to the Windy City for this weekend’s festivities, let’s take our weekly snapshot of the league and see how the teams stack up.

The Lynx enter All-Star week with the third-longest active win streak at five consecutive victories. The two teams with longer streaks are biting at Minnesota’s heels in the standings, and these rankings (see our next two teams), but the Lynx have been able to keep them at bay — at least for now. The Lynx will be well represented in Chicago, with Olivia Miles and Courtney Williams playing for Team Spoon (coached by Cheryl Reeve), while Natasha Howard will represent Team Coop.

The Valkyries maintain their title as “hottest team in the league” as they extended their franchise-record win streak to nine in a row on Saturday. Golden State is a scorching 13-2 over their past 15 games, dating back to June 9. That is the best record in the league during that span. However, their two matchups with the Lynx (both losses by a combined total of nine points) came before this hot streak got started. Gabby Williams is the only member of the Valkyries on an All-Star roster, as the versatile forward will represent Team Coop.

After their Thursday game against New York was postponed, the Wings returned to the court for the first time in a week on Sunday. The time off did not slow their momentum as they secured their sixth straight victory, marking the franchise’s longest win streak in the Dallas era (since 2016). Dallas can match the all-time franchise record (eight games, set by Detroit in 2003 and Tulsa in 2015) if it can keep it alive until the All-Star break. A key question ahead of Monday’s rescheduled game against the Liberty will be the availability of Paige Bueckers, who left Sunday’s game after a collision with Nneka Ogwumike. Bueckers is also headed to Chicago as a member of Team Coop, while her Wings teammate Jessica Shepard will be on the opposing Team Spoon.

It’s tough to drop the Aces two spots in the rankings when they didn’t play a game all week, but with Golden State and Dallas on fire right now, the idle Aces were leapfrogged by both teams. This week, Las Vegas visits Toronto and Washington, before Jackie Young, A’ja Wilson, and coach Becky Hammon head to Chicago. As the coach of Team Coop, Hammon will now endure the daunting task that the WNBA’s other 14 coaches face throughout the season — trying to stop A’ja Wilson, who is starting for Team Spoon.

Before she heads to Chicago to appear in her second WNBA All-Star Game, Caitlin Clark made a bit of history Friday night during Indiana’s win over Seattle. She erupted for 45 points, 10 assists, six 3-pointers, four steals, and two blocks in just 29 minutes. Clark is the only player in WNBA or NBA history to record 40+ points and 10+ assists in a game with under 30 minutes of action. Clark and the Fever have won four of their last five games (and are 7-3 in their last 10), helping them hold a top-five position. Indy will be well represented in Chicago, with Clark and Aliyah Boston on Team Spoon and facing Kelsey Mitchell this weekend.

Similar to Dallas with Paige Bueckers, Atlanta earned a victory on Sunday (93-91 over Chicago) but saw an All-Star leave the court and not return. Angel Reese exited the game with a left leg injury after just 20 minutes. Despite losing her, the Dream prevailed behind Allisha Gray’s 29 points and Jordin Canada’s buzzer-beating layup, pushing their win streak to three games. This weekend, assuming Reese is healthy, she will represent Team Coop and face Dream teammates Gray and Rhyne Howard, both of whom are on Team Spoon.

On June 30, the Liberty became the first team in WNBA history to win the Commissioner’s Cup twice in the competition’s six-year history. However, the Liberty went 1-4 in the five games leading up to that Championship Game win, and have gone 1-4 in the five games since. That 2-8 stretch has dropped New York from a tie for second place in the league to seventh place (just a half-game ahead of eighth). The Liberty will look to get back on track this week at Dallas and at home against Chicago before Breanna Stewart (Team Coop) and Jonquel Jones (Team Spoon) face each other in the All-Star Game.

After picking up four wins in a five-game stretch to move two games above .500, the Mystics dropped two straight last week to Portland and Golden State. Washington will try to avoid going into the break on a four-game skid as the Mystics face the Valkyries and Aces to close out their pre-All-Star break schedule. Similar to other teams featuring multiple All-Stars, the Washington duo of Sonia Citron (Team Coop) and Kiki Iriafen (Team Spoon) will go head-to-head as the two sophomores return to the All-Star Game for the second straight year.

Throughout July, Portland has traded wins and losses over six games. The Fire will try to continue that bounce-back trend entering their final game before the All-Star break. Coming off a 101-93 loss to the Lynx, they will look to rebound and cool down the blazing Dallas Wings on Wednesday. After playing eight of their last nine games on the road, the Fire will open a stretch of six home contests in a seven-game span. So far this season, Portland is 6-6 at home compared to just 5-9 on the road.

The Tempo have gone just 1-6 since Marina Mabrey’s record-tying 53-point performance on June 25. During that seven-game stretch, Toronto has allowed a league-high 92.9 points per game, while only scoring 81.9 per game (11th in the league). Before Mabrey heads to Chicago as an All-Star for Team Coop, she and the Tempo will look to get back on track with a matchup against the defending champs on Monday.

This past week, the Sky picked up wins over Seattle and Los Angeles before dropping a heartbreaker to Atlanta on Sunday thanks to Jordin Canada’s buzzer-beating layup. Speaking of game-winning heroics, the Sky will face Sabrina Ionescu and the Liberty in their final matchup before the All-Star break. Last month, Ionescu sank a game-winning layup against the Sky in their first meeting of the season. Can the Sky avenge that loss on the road?

On June 24, the Sparks announced that All-Star guard Kelsey Plum would be sidelined for at least four weeks due to a lower leg injury. How important has Plum been for L.A. this season? The Sparks are 7-5 in the 12 games that Plum has played. They are just 3-10 without her. L.A. hosts the Mercury in its final game before the break. As for the All-Star Game, Plum (Team Coop) and Nneka Ogwumike (Team Spoon) will go head-to-head in Chicago (assuming both players are healthy).

On Sunday, DeWanna Bonner scored a season-high 21 points to help the Mercury defeat the Sun and snap a five-game skid. Keep an eye on Bonner in the coming weeks as she approaches some all-time milestones. She is four games away from passing Diana Taurasi for the second-most games played in WNBA history. Additionally, she needs just four rebounds to pass Rebekah Brunson for a spot in the all-time top five, and sits only nine 3-pointers shy of becoming the ninth player to reach 700 career triples. Bonner will look to add to her career totals when the Mercury visit the Sparks on Wednesday.

Connecticut comes out of the break with three more road games: at Washington, at Indiana, and at Chicago.

A bright spot for the Storm is second-year center Dominique Malonga, earning her first All-Star nod. She will head to Chicago as part of Team Coop.

2026 WNBA Power Rankings: Week 9

Since our last Power Rankings on June 29, the 2026 WNBA season has officially passed its midpoint. Through Sunday, 174 games have been played, with 156 more to go.
The first half of the season has already delivered historic moments, a promising rookie class, two expansion teams that have each racked up double-digit wins, and the first-ever two-time WNBA Commissioner’s Cup champions.
Before the stretch run toward the playoffs begins, the league’s top players will converge on Chicago next week to showcase their skills at the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game.
Let’s take a look at how the teams stack up against one another coming out of the season’s midpoint and ahead of the All-Star break.

Not only did Cheryl Reeve become the WNBA’s all-time leader in coaching wins, but she’s also guided the Lynx to the best record in the league through the season’s midpoint. And she’s done it with her best player — last year’s MVP runner-up Napheesa Collier — sidelined after offseason ankle surgeries. However, reports say Collier is “really close” to returning, which should only make the Lynx more formidable.

The Aces are coming off a wild 24-hour period. After matching the third-largest margin of victory in league history (48 points) on Saturday against Phoenix, the Aces followed it with their largest loss of the season (34 points) against Indiana. That 82-point swing from one game to the next is the largest in league history and is emblematic of Las Vegas’ season. Of the 15 games across the league this season that have been decided by more than 25 points, the Aces have been involved in six of them — the most of any team — with three wins and three losses.

Riding a league-high (and franchise-record) seven-game win streak, it is tempting to put the Valkyries at the top of the power rankings as they currently hold the title of “hottest team in the league.” However, the Valkyries have yet to solve either the Aces (0-3) or Lynx (0-2), which are the only teams to beat Golden State since May 22. This season, the Valkyries are 0-5 against Las Vegas and Minnesota, and 17-2 against everyone else. The good news for Golden State: only two of its remaining 20 games come against either of those teams (both against Minnesota in August).

Another contender for the “hottest team in the league” title, the Wings have won five straight games. One more win (against New York on Thursday) would give the Wings their longest winning streak of the Dallas era, which began a decade ago. If the Wings can sweep their final three games heading into All-Star, they would tie the franchise record for consecutive wins in a season (eight), which they accomplished in 2015 in Tulsa and 2003 in Detroit.

Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell — one of three Fever players who will start in next weekend’s All-Star Game. While their record is nearly always on balance, the Mystics are imbalanced on both ends of the court. Washington ranks third in defensive efficiency (allowing just 102.8 points per 100 possessions), but is tied for last in offensive efficiency (scoring just 98.8 points per 100 possessions). After tying the second-highest scoring game of the season on June 28 (124 points vs. Portland), the Mystics had the lowest-scoring game of the season just eight days later (49 points vs. Golden State). The Sparks are 7-1 when she scores at least 20 points this season. They are just 2-10 when she’s held under 20.

Marina Mabrey became the franchise’s first All-Star when she was named one of the 12 reserves by the league’s coaches. It makes sense since Mabrey’s scoring has given opposing coaches nightmares in recent weeks. Over her last 10 games, Mabrey has averaged 26.1 points per game on 48.6% shooting overall and 47.2% from 3-point range on 8.9 attempts per game.

The Lynx won the first two matchups this season; can the Mercury avoid a series sweep?

The Sun eked out a 90-89 road win on Monday behind a season-high 29 points from Brittney Griner to prevent Cheryl Reeve from breaking former Sun coach Mike Thibault’s all-time coaching wins record. However, two days later, Reeve topped Thibault’s mark despite a strong effort from the shorthanded Sun, who were without Griner and Aneesah Morrow, and lost Saniya Rivers after just nine minutes.

Diggins (missed the last three games with a knee injury) joins Carrington (who has yet to play this season due to a foot injury) and Jackson (lost to a torn ACL after only four games) on the sidelines. As the missed games have added up, so have the losses, with Chicago dropping four of its last five games.

in only the second 4OT game in league history and the first since 2001.
Kamilla Cardoso dropped a career-best 30 points on a perfect 13-for-13 shooting, setting the 
record for the most field goals made without a miss in league history.
Brittney Griner became the WNBA&#8217;s all-time leader in blocked shots with the 878th rejection 
of her career.
Cheryl Reeve tied the WNBA record for most coaching wins 24 hours after joining Candace 
Parker and Elena Delle Donne in entering the Women&#8217;s Basketball Hall of Fame.
How do we follow that?
On Tuesday night in Brooklyn, the Aces and Liberty square off in the Commissioner&#8217;s Cup 
Championship Game as the last two WNBA champs vie to add a second Commissioner&#8217;s Cup to 
their trophy collection.
But before a new week gets underway, let&#8217;s look at how the teams stack up through seven weeks

Not only is Reeve tied for the most regular-season wins in WNBA history (she already owns the 
record for playoff wins), but her Lynx also continue to hold the best record in the WNBA this 
season. After opening the season 2-2, the Lynx have gone 15-2 since. They are off until Friday, 
when they visit the Liberty in Brooklyn, with Reeve looking to take sole possession of first place 
on the coaching wins list.

Chicago to enter Tuesday&#8217;s Cup Championship Game with some winning momentum. In 
Sunday&#8217;s victory over the Sky, A&#8217;ja Wilson made WNBA history as she scored 20 of her 30 
points in the second half, passing Diana Taurasi (29) for the most 20+ point halves in league 
history.

game and have been led in scoring for at least one game by seven different players.

&#8220;You can&#8217;t play with heart and play with effort just when things are going good,&#8221; Breanna 
Stewart said after Sunday&#8217;s loss to Golden State. &#8220;It&#8217;s really the moments when you&#8217;re at the 
lowest. And this team &#8212; we&#8217;re obviously not a finished product, but this wasn&#8217;t a great showing, 
especially coming off of a loss.&#8221;
How will the Liberty respond when they clash with the Aces with the Cup on the line, followed 
by a matchup with league-leading Minnesota?

After winning four straight games to improve to 12-4 on the season — matching their best start 
since 2010 — the Dream dropped three straight to close out last week, including consecutive 
losses at Golden State. However, Atlanta still enters the week with the best record in the Eastern 
Conference and will look to get back on track when they visit the Mystics on Thursday and then 
close out their season series with the Valkyries at home.

The Wings opened last week with an overtime win in Seattle that saw rookie Azzi Fudd drop a 
career-best 26 points to go with Paige Bueckers&#8217; 27 as the Wings&#8217; backcourt helped offset a 
career-best 37 from Seattle center Dominique Malonga. But the Wings were unable to build off 
the win as they fell to the top two teams in the standings — Minnesota and Las Vegas — to close 
the week. Dallas will look to rebound when they visit Connecticut and Toronto this week.

After splitting a pair of games with the Mercury, the Fever closed out a stretch of five home 
games in a six-game span with a win over the Sparks. Even without Caitlin Clark, who missed 
the game with a back injury, the Fever still put up their league-leading seventh game with 100+ 
points. Clark is not expected to miss much time, according to coach Stephanie White. The Fever 
are off until Sunday, when they open a four-game road trip out West that is bookended by games 
in Las Vegas.

It&#8217;s fitting that the WNBA&#8217;s first quadruple-overtime game in 21 years would involve the 
Mystics, who won the league&#8217;s only other 4OT game on July 3, 2001, with a 72-69 triumph over 
Seattle. No team has played in more close games so far this season than the Mystics, who 
improved to 5-2 in games decided by three points or less. The good news for Sonia Citron — 
who logged a game-high 53 minutes, tied for the fifth-most minutes played in a game in WNBA 
history — and the rest of the Mystics is that they are off until Thursday when they host Atlanta.

The Tempo went just 1-2 last week, but that lone victory was certainly memorable. Marina 
Mabrey was unstoppable against the Sparks on Thursday night as she erupted for 53 points and 
nine 3-pointers, tying the WNBA&#8217;s single-game record in both categories. That win over L.A. 
was the first game in a nine-game homestand for the Tempo that runs until the All-Star break. 
After hovering within a game of .500 throughout their inaugural season, can the Tempo string 
together some wins at home? The chances go up if Mabrey keeps dropping 50-balls in The 
North.

Los Angeles entered last week coming off a thrilling win over New York thanks to Nneka 
Ogwumike&#8217;s buzzer-beating 3-pointer. However, the Sparks were unable to build off that victory 
as they dropped consecutive road games at Toronto and Indiana by 28 and 24 points, 
respectively. The Sparks have lost four of their last five games but have a full week off to 
regroup as they do not play again until July 6 when they host Seattle.

Kahleah Copper is starting to cook, and after a 4-12 start to the season, the Mercury are 
beginning to string some wins together. After having three 20+ point games over Phoenix&#8217;s first 
14 contests, Copper has five in the Mercury&#8217;s last six games, averaging 26.5 points on 53.7% 
shooting over that stretch. Phoenix still has work to do to climb out of its early hole and back 
into playoff contention. The Mercury go for their first three-game win streak of the season when 
they host Seattle on Thursday.

The Sky picked up back-to-back home wins over Portland last week. The first was all about 
balance, with Skylar Diggins leading seven Sky players in double figures in a 23-point win. The 
second was all about Kamilla Cardoso, who made WNBA history with a career-best 30 points on 
a perfect 13-for-13 shooting. Half of Chicago&#8217;s wins this season have come against the Fire, but 
that season series is wrapped. After closing out the week with a loss to Las Vegas, the Sky get 
another shot at the defending champs on Friday.

Unfortunately for the Fire, one team must be on the wrong end of an instant classic. Carla Leite 
— who banked in a 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in regulation to force overtime — had a good 
look for the game-winner, but her runner just missed as the Fire fell to the Mystics in a 
quadruple-overtime marathon. It was Portland&#8217;s third straight loss as the Fire dropped to 2-8 in 
June. After four players logged 45+ minutes on Sunday, the Fire have nearly a full week off 
before visiting Seattle on Saturday.

Seattle&#8217;s week started with both frustration and hope. The agony came from suffering an 11th 
straight loss for the Storm&#8217;s longest losing streak in team history. The promise came from 20- 
year-old Dominique Malonga, who had a career night with 37 points and 12 rebounds in the OT 
loss. Seattle&#8217;s week closed with both victories and optimism. The Storm earned double-digit wins 
over both New York and Atlanta with rookies Flau&#8217;jae Johnson and Awa Fam leading the way. 
Can the Storm continue to build when they visit Phoenix on Thursday?

record books, passing Margo Dydek as the all-time leader in blocked shots. Four days later, it 
was Olivia Nelson-Ododa&#8217;s turn to lead the Sun, posting 12 points, nine rebounds, and three 
blocks as Connecticut won back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Sun will try for 
three straight when they host the Wings on Thursday.

Similar to last week, this week’s power rankings will offer a hybrid look at each team’s performance in both the overall season and the Commissioner’s Cup.
While Cup play wraps up with a six-game slate on Wednesday, June 17, we already know one of the teams that will compete in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game on June 30, after the New York Liberty punched their ticket on Sunday.
Let’s dive into this week’s rankings to see which teams have the best shot at facing the Liberty in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game and competing for a share of the $500,000 prize pool.

2026 WNBA Power Rankings: Commissioner’s Cup (Week 2)

Over the next two weeks, the weekly power rankings will offer a hybrid look at each team’s play in both the overall season and the Commissioner’s Cup.
The overall power ranking will reflect a team’s performance over the entire season, but the Commissioner’s Cup standings could come into play when it comes to tiebreakers and close calls.
A quick reminder that Commissioner’s Cup play runs from June 1–17, with all games played during that time counting toward both the regular season and Cup standings. The team from each conference with the top record in Commissioner’s Cup games will compete in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game on June 30.

The Mercury were shorthanded in their win over the Fire on Friday, playing without starters Alyssa Thomas (calf) and Kahleah Copper (hip). Both are listed as day-to-day as Phoenix gets set to open a three-game slate in Golden State on Tuesday.

Two positive signs emerged from the past week: Azura Stevens is coming off back-to-back double-doubles — her first two of the season in six games played — and rookie Gabriela Jaquez (knee) returned from a four-game absence on Sunday. The Sky hit the road this week to face the Dream and Fever; so far this season, the Sky have been better on the road (3-3) than at home (1-4).

While the Storm hold the league’s fourth-ranked defense (102.9 defensive rating), their imbalance has been too much to overcome.

Rather, the Sun rank 14th in the league on both ends of the court, which has led to a -15.3 net rating (the Sun are outscored by 15.3 points per 100 possessions), on pace to be the lowest mark since 2020.

The first three weeks of the 2026 season have served as a warm-up for the sixth annual <a href="https://www.wnba.com/commissioners-cup/2026">Commissioner’s Cup</a> presented by Coinbase.
The WNBA’s in-season tournament tips off Monday, June 1, and runs through the 17th, with all 49 games played during that time counting toward the regular-season and Commissioner Cup standings.
The team from each conference with the top record in Commissioner’s Cup games will compete in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game and a $500,000 prize pool on Tuesday, June 30.
In addition to providing <a href="https://www.wnba.com/news/comissioners-cup-2026-primer">exciting games with elevated stakes</a> early in the regular season, the Commissioner’s Cup has also provided a glimpse of how the postseason field can shake out. Several recent Cup winners and runners-up have gone on to reach the WNBA Finals in the same season. Will that trend continue in 2026?

The 2024 Commissioner’s Cup champions (and 2025 runners-up) enter the competition on a hot streak, winning four straight games to rise to the top of the standings. Despite missing two players from last year’s All-Defensive First Team – Napheesa Collier (injury) and co-Defensive Player of the Year Alanna Smith (signed with Dallas) – the Lynx still own the league’s top defensive rating (96.8). They also have an early frontrunner for Rookie of the Year in Olivia Miles, who leads all first-year players in points (15.4) and assists (5.9) and ranks second in rebounds (5.1).

The league’s only other two-loss team, the Dream, fell to the Lynx on Wednesday before bouncing back with a 20-point win over Portland. Similar to the Lynx, the Dream are leading with defense. Atlanta holds the league’s second-best defensive rating (100.0), allows the fewest 3-pointers made, the fewest free throws attempted and forces the third-most turnovers. But their 11th-ranked offensive rating (105.0) will need to climb in order to contend for the Cup.

The Wings only had one game on their schedule in Week 3, and Jessica Shepard made the most of it, posting only the second 20-20-10 game in the WNBA’s 30-year history. She finished with 22 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 95-87 win over the defending champion Aces to join Alyssa Thomas in the record books. After a 1-2 start, the Wings have won four of their last five as they enter Cup play.

After giving up that big game to Dallas’ Shepard and losing their third game of the early season, the Aces bounced back with a 91-81 win over the Valkyries to enter Cup play on a winning note and make Becky Hammon the second-fastest coach to reach 150 wins. Las Vegas is one of three teams, along with New York and Minnesota, to reach the Cup Championship Game twice, and will look to get back to that stage for the first time since 2023 as the competition gets underway.

Following a blowout win over Connecticut, the Valkyries earned their first clutch win of the season with a 90-88 victory over Indiana. But they were unable to complete a perfect week, falling to Las Vegas on Sunday. The Valkyries open Cup play with a challenging first week, facing a trio of teams — Portland (6-4), Minnesota (6-2), and Las Vegas (5-3) — with a combined 17-9 record to open the season. Can the Valkyries run that gauntlet and make an early statement in Cup competition?

New York snapped a three-game skid with back-to-back wins over the Mercury that showcased the Liberty’s depth. On Wednesday, it was Marine Johannes (21 points on seven 3s) and Jonquel Jones (scoring 10 of her 17 points during a 23-0 third-quarter run) who led the way. Two days later, it was Pauline Astier (16 points and 6 assists) and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton (13 points in 15 bench minutes) who paced New York. If the Liberty hope to return to the Cup Championship for the third time in four years, getting Sabrina Ionescu (who has played in only one game) back on the court healthy will be key.

The busiest team in the WNBA in Week 3 emerged with a 3-1 record over the past seven days, picking up wins over New York, Connecticut, and Indiana, compared to only a single loss to Atlanta. The Fire will make their Commissioner’s Cup debut on Tuesday when they visit Ballhalla to take on the Valkyries in the Bay. Portland is 6-4 through its first 10 games, just ahead of Golden State’s 5-5 pace in its inaugural season a year ago. The expansion team enters Cup play as the league&#8217;s best clutch team, going 4-0 in games with the score within five points in the final five minutes.

Last year, the Fever became the fifth different team in the event’s five-year history to win the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. Now, they’ll attempt to do something their four predecessors could not — successfully defend the Cup title. That defense gets started this week with matchups against the Dream and Liberty. Indy is coming off consecutive road losses to Golden State and Portland, the latter of which saw Caitlin Clark limited to a season-low six points in 22 minutes as she battled foul trouble. Any attempt at a successful Cup defense will need some big games from Clark over the next few weeks.

The Tempo get their first taste of Commissioner’s Cup action this week when they visit the Liberty on Wednesday before hosting the Sky on Sunday. Toronto is coming off back-to-back wins over Chicago and Seattle last week and will go for their first-ever three-game win streak when they face the Liberty for the first time.

We know the Sparks will open Cup play on Tuesday when they host the Aces. We don’t know if Kelsey Plum will be on the court. The WNBA’s leading scorer at 26.8 points per game has missed L.A.’s last two games after suffering a sprained ankle in practice last week. She is set to be evaluated on Tuesday to determine her status for the Cup opener. Playing without Plum last week, the Sparks edged out Washington before falling to Connecticut, giving the Sun just their second win of the season.

With all Commissioner’s Cup games being played over the next 17 days, a hot streak can elevate a team, while a losing streak may spell doom. The Mystics have yet to win consecutive games so far this season, coming up short on all three occasions. Stacking wins is something the Mystics must do if they hope to make a run at the Cup Championship Game.

After a promising 3-1 start to the season, the Sky have dropped four straight games, falling in both the standings and these rankings. Chicago, the 2022 Cup runner-up, faces a three-game slate in the opening week of Cup competition. Following matchups with the Mystics and Sun, the Sky will have their second shot at the expansion Tempo after Toronto earned an 111-104 win last week. The Tempo lived up to their name, posting a WNBA season-high 111 points.

<h2>13. Seattle Storm (3-6) ⬇️</h2>

The Storm’s roster looked very different from what it does now when they won the inaugural Commissioner&#8217;s Cup Championship in 2021. That 2021 roster featured Sue Bird (retired), Breanna Stewart (now with New York), and Jewell Loyd (now with Las Vegas). The only players remaining from that 2021 Cup championship roster are Katie Lou Samuelson (who has appeared in just three games) and Ezi Magbegor (who has yet to play this season). A key player to watch if she is able to return for this week’s trio of Cup games is Dominique Malonga, who played in only three games after missing the past six due to a concussion.

Phoenix opens up Commissioner’s Cup play on Monday against Minnesota, looking to snap the WNBA’s longest active losing streak. After opening the season 2-2, the Mercury have dropped five straight games, including consecutive losses to New York in Week 3. Following their Cup opener at home against the Lynx, the Mercury head to the Pacific Northwest to face the Storm and Fire to close out the week.

2026 WNBA Power Rankings: Week Three

With every team having between five and seven games in the books two weeks into the new season, we have more information to help us analyze the field.
In addition to seeing a number of standout performances — 45 points from A’ja Wilson, 38-piece specials from Kelsey Plum and Brittney Sykes, Azzi Fudd’s six-pack of 3-pointers, and Nneka Ogwumike climbing to 5th on the all-time scoring list — a few trends have started to emerge for some teams that we’ll explore below.

On opening night, the Aces received their 2025 championship rings — then lost by 33 to Phoenix. On Saturday, the Aces raised their 2025 championship banner — then lost to Los Angeles while allowing 38 points to former Ace Kelsey Plum. Meanwhile, Las Vegas is 4-0 when not celebrating its title. They’ll put that trend to the test this week with road games against the Wings and Valkyries.

Atlanta enters this week with the top record in the WNBA thanks to a late rally against Phoenix on Sunday. The comeback was powered by 21 points from Rhyne Howard, alongside double-doubles by Jordin Canada and Angel Reese (her third with the Dream). Allisha Gray added 17 points in the win as she ranks fifth in the league in scoring (21.8 ppg) over Atlanta’s first five games.

Fueled by a pair of top-four scorers in the league – Caitlin Clark (23.8 ppg) and Kelsey Mitchell (22.3 ppg) – the Fever are the highest-scoring team in the WNBA, averaging 93.7 points per game. After earning home wins over the Fire and Valkyries this past week, the Fever hit the road to face the same two teams this week in Portland and San Francisco.

Through their first five games, the Valkyries have lived and died by the 3-point shot. In their three wins, they have made at least 13 3-pointers on 37% shooting or better. In their two losses, they have made seven 3-pointers in each game and shot below 32% both times. After splitting a pair of road games in New York and Indy last week, the Valkyries open a four-game homestand on Monday against the Sun.

Here’s the list of players averaging at least 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists so far this season — perennial MVP candidate Alyssa Thomas and Lynx rookie Olivia Miles. Miles, the No. 2 pick in the 2026 Draft, looks like a star in the making. Meanwhile, veteran Natasha Howard has thrived (17.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg, and 66.7 FG%, which ranks fourth in the WNBA) in her first season back in Minnesota. This is buying the Lynx more time as they await the return of their own MVP candidate, Napheesa Collier.

We go from talking about this year’s No. 2 pick (Miles) to this year’s No. 1 pick, Azzi Fudd, who had one of the best games by a rookie in league history on Sunday. Fudd splashed six 3-pointers (tied for second most by a rookie ever) and scored 17 points in the 3rd quarter (also tied for second most by a rookie ever) on her way to a career-best 24 points in Dallas’ win over New York. After going 3-1 as the busiest team in the league in Week 2, Fudd, Paige Bueckers, and the rest of the Wings are off until Thursday when they host the Aces.

After averaging 100 points per game over their first four contests this season, the Liberty&#8217;s offense struggled this past week, posting back-to-back double-digit losses to the Valkyries and Wings, with New York putting up just 70 and 76 points, respectively. Those were the first two games of a season-long seven-game homestand for New York. Can the Liberty course correct and take advantage of their home-heavy schedule? Having Sabrina Ionescu back on the court, following her season debut on Sunday, should certainly help that cause.

The Sky are taking the phrase “playing .500 ball” to a new level. Not only do they have a .500 win percentage at 3-3, but they have also scored exactly 500 points and given up exactly 500 points over their first six games combined. Hence, their position is smack dab in the middle of this week’s rankings. Chicago will look to get above .500 when they host Toronto on Wednesday. However, they will have to do it without leading scorer Rickea Jackson, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Through six games, Portland’s debut season has resembled a seesaw, trading wins and losses back and forth. This week, the Fire edged out the Sun at home, fell to the Fever on the road, then rolled in the battle of expansion teams against the Tempo as Portland dominated the second half. Can the Fire put together their first consecutive wins? Their first attempt comes Monday in Brooklyn, against a Liberty squad that Portland beat at the buzzer for their first win.

The Sparks offense is clicking as they make a move up these rankings. After scoring 78 points in each of their first two games (both losses), the Sparks have scored at least 96 points in each of their last four games — going 3-1 in that stretch. In this week’s road wins over Phoenix and Vegas, L.A. shot 29-for-61 (47.5%) from beyond the arc, with WNBA leading scorer Kelsey Plum pacing the Sparks (26.8 ppg on 48.8 3P%) this season.

After being the first team to suffer a defeat at the hands of the Sun, the Storm bounced back two days later with an 18-point win over Connecticut behind a career-high-tying 17 points from rookie Flau’jae Johnson. In the Storm’s three wins, the No. 8 pick in this year’s draft has averaged 16.7 ppg on 38.9% shooting. Conversely, during their four losses, her production dipped to 9.5 points on 25.6% shooting. Washington ranks last in the league in 3-pointers made (5.0 per game) and 3-point percentage (25.5%); both of those numbers must improve for Washington to climb.

Following the Mercury’s 33-point win over the Aces in an opening night Finals rematch, last year’s runners-up have gone just 1-5 since to drop near the bottom of the standings. Despite their 2-5 record, the Mercury’s offense is actually averaging 4.5 more points per game than they did a season ago. However, the Mercury’s defense is allowing 6.9 more points per game to opponents, which is not only negating their offensive gains but also digging them into a deeper hole to climb out of.

Despite getting a combined 18 points from their starting lineup, the Sun scored a win over the Storm last Wednesday to earn their first victory of the season. Rookie Charlisse Leger-Walker led four Connecticut reserves in double figures off the bench, helping the unit deliver a massive 62-39 advantage over their Storm counterparts. As Connecticut seeks its second win of 2026, the Sun must visit Golden State and Portland before hosting the defending champs on Saturday.
